Sunday morning (Oct. 13, 2013) at 9:31 a.m. Richard exchanged life temporal for life eternal at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. A gathering of family and friends will be at the Jones Funeral Home, Kankakee, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist Church in Kankakee. Pastor Carl Randle will officiate. Burial will be in Momence Cemetery.

Sunrise for Richard Lee Jordan Jr. was April 21, 1957, born to the union of Richard Sr. and Juanita Jones Jordan in Chicago. He relocated to the Momence area where he graduated from Momence High School and attended Illinois State University where he received a bachelor's degree in political science. Richard served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and then the Army National Guard.

Richard was joined in marriage to the former LaVerne Cook on March 30, 1999, in Kankakee. He was a financial broker and grant writer. Richard was a 32nd Degree Mason affiliated with A&ASRM, member of the Hebrew Israelites and the National Associations for Black Veterans of America Inc.


Bishop Jordan received his Bachelor of Divinity from the Moody Bible Institute and was an ordained minister. He served as the pastor of the Union Baptist Church in Pembroke Township. He will be remembered for his spiritual strength, love of education and service to God through humanity.

Bishop Jordan leaves loving and cherished memories with his wife, LaVerne; his mother, Juanita; sons, Michael, Richard III, Jachin, Rickeenan, Joseph and Eric; daughters, Toni (LaTroyce), Naomi, Jasmine, Juanita, Symone, Ricca, Ravin, LaRasha (Joseph) and LaShana; 21 grandchildren; a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Deacon and Sister Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by in father and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
